MARTHA LEÓN

Martha León, an industrial and graphic designer, holds degrees from the Universidad Iberoamericana and UAM-Xochimilco in Mexico. She is a prominent figure in the field of publishing in Mexico. Her work has been recognized with awards such as the Quórum award from the Óscar Román gallery, the National Chamber of the Editorial Industry award for editorial art, and the V International Design Award, among others. She has also served as an educator in graphic design at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she worked as the head of the design department for postgraduate studies at the ENAP (National School of Plastic Arts). She has contributed to the Faculty of Accounting and Administration and has worked as a designer for the General Directorate of Personnel.

In 1986, while coordinating the editing of secondary school textbooks at the Fondo de Cultura Económica, she co-founded Saluzzo, a design and editing firm, alongside Germán Montalvo and Martha Chapa. Three years later, she, along with Germán Montalvo and a group of prominent Mexican designers including Martha and Felipe Covarrubias and Xavier Bermúdez, founded Trama Visual, an organization of great importance in Mexico. We owe initiatives such as the International Poster Biennial in Mexico City to this organization.

In 1997, Martha León founded Contornos, her own Design and Editing workshop, where she has worked with authors of the stature of Raúl Cremoux, Álvaro Mutis, Leo Matiz, Jaime Navarro, Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, Teodoro González de León, Ignacio Guzmán, Wolfgang Ehrensberger, Edgar Tavares, Alberto Kalach, Fabricio Vanden Broeck, among others. She has also undertaken projects for organizations like the National Council for Culture and the Arts, the Ministry of Public Administration, the Ministry of the Interior, UNAM, the Conmemoraciones 2010 Foundation, the Ministry of the Environment of the Federal District, the Ministry of Health, the International Cervantino Festival, the Mexico City Airport Group, Luz y Fuerza del Centro, the National Housing Fund Institute for Workers, the National Lottery for Public Assistance, the College of Architects of Mexico, and Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México, among others.
